At the Voortreker Monument what really caught my eye was that there was a sculpture of voortrekers in their time living a normal life made out of cake icing. It was really detailed that I fell in love with it and took a lot of pictures - hopefully there is no damage from all the flashes! Ek!

Voortreker Monument - Part 1

Next Stop Pretoria afternoon/evening - VoorTrekker Monument at the top of the hill

After setting off from the Botanical Garden with Mike - my cab driver, I went to the Hadfields Gautrain Station and took a straight train to Pretoria Gautrain Station. Arriving at the station I asked for different mode of transportation towards Durban as it was my next stop and showed various transport agencies - Luxury Bus (Intercape, Greyhound, etc) and Shosholoza Meyl that travels around the south Africa's top destinations. The most unique thing I noticed was that the trains take longer to travel then the buses as they stop very often. The best option was for me to take a  luxury bus to Durban and be on the coach for 8 hours opposite to 16 hours on a train. After buying a ticket with Intercape, I went to get a taxi which is a nightmare in Taxi station as everyone wants you to use their taxis. Finally after spending a bit of more money, I reached my next destination - Voortrekkers Monument. Voortrekkers were Dutch and Afrikaans alike group of people that trekked from the cape colonies to South Africa and dealt with the English men, the Zulus and were finally dealt with the British rule and were allowed to stay in the country. They are people alike the Gypsies and were treated the same as the Gypsies were in early days. Take a look at the Voortrekers Monument that was build the architect Gerard Moerdijk which symbolizes the courage of women and children during the war of blood river and other wars that they had to fight.

Botanical Gardens - Part 1

One Day in Pretoria - Afternoon filled with Botonical Beauty

After the Union Buildings, I went to Hadfields Station and went around asking questions to get to the Botanical Gardens and met these two ladies who suggested that the best option will be to take a taxi and called a taxi for me who's name was Mike. Mike dropped me at the Botanical Gardens and said call back in order for him to pick me up. He drove the most funniest cars I have even seen - A old yellow pinto car. Botanical Gardens were full of surprises with beautiful plants and the lucky ones see the rare rusty Grey Deer. I wasn't the lucky ones to see but I saw a Mongoose which I haven't seen in a very long time. Here see the best of the Botanical Garden - Tip: Take a trip around the waterfall and wetlands and sip Rooibos tea with milk at the Gardens Cafe. One day in Pretoria - Morning

Got to Jo'Burg at 5:00 in the morning and checked into Pretoria Backpackers at 08:00 am. I would personally recommended the Pretoria Backpackers as I was welcomed with a bright smile from Trisha and Ti-Ti who were very considerate, helpful and answered each of my silly and sincere questions. I was situated in the hut behind the hostel building which is very warm, calm place under the stars with a very lovely girl from Namibia. She was studying at the University of Pretoria to be a Veteran. I feel in love with the hostel's Bathroom which potrayed the best feeling of africa with a big massive vase with bamboo sticks in and shower with pebbles as surface. The first morning I trekked down to the Union Buildings which were magnificent. Funnily, found Hare Krishna Tour doing their thing in the park. Completely ignoring that, went to the union buildings to find a lovely couple descending the stairs after getting married. Took a look around as the whether went from freezing cold to warmest day I have seen in a long time - and saw the African sun for the first time and feel in love with its beauty. Golden and red hues just blew me away. And it showed me its strength as it went 10 Deg to 27 Deg in 30 mins. Next Stop Botonical Gardens, Pretoria.
